The BNB chain network is going to take a decisive step with the activation of the Lorentz hard fork, scheduled for 29 April 2025 at 5:05 PM UTC. This technical upgrade is the main development of Blockchain infrastructure to improve the speed and fluency of crypto transactions.

BNB string: shortening the block time from 3 to 1.5 seconds

The heart of this BNB chain update is based on the BEP-520 implementation, which is shared by two BSC block time, from 3 to 1.5 seconds. The aim of this change is to reduce latency, speed up the completion of transactions and offer a significantly improved user experience for developers, validators and end users.

Increased speed should also support the acceptance of the BNB chain in cases of use requiring high sensitivity. In addition to shortening the block time, Hard Fork Lorentz will introduce other important adjustments:

  • The epoch drops from 200 to 500;
  • The gas limit will be divided by two (from 140 to 70 million GWEI);
  • The “consecutive turnlen” will double and will go from 4 to 8.

The aim of these changes in the BNB chain to strengthen the resistance of the binance network while maintaining its total flow.

Nodes must be updated before 29 April

All BSC nodes must be upgraded to version 1.5.10 in front of the hard fork. Similar previous updates have already been successfully made in the OPBNB 21st April, reducing the block time to 0.5 seconds.
