The viral video about Tiktoku claims that the law prohibiting money would be accepted in France. In a few days, this sequence revived anxiety around the end of cash and a fully digitized society. However, this statement is false because no law confirms such a ban. Behind this deceptive story, the very real object deserves attention: the EUR Digital EUR project, which is to complete the species and not to get them to disappear.

The giant smartphone projects a beam threatening the euro, while a French citizen hits what symbolizes the announcement of the end of cash in France replaced by digital euros through a false video tiktok.

In short

  • Video Tiktok misunderstood that the law would prohibit the use of liquid money in France from April.
  • This reputation, which is rejected by the absence of an official text, is based on viral content generated by artificial intelligence.
  • The ECB digital Euro project is very real, but its goal is to complete the species, not to remove them.
  • The silver liquid remains used by most French people and protected by institutions, as the Senate remembered in 2024.

Annapped rumors handed over massively on social networks

Video in the origin of the controversy exceeded 240,000 views on Tiktok with a remarkable introduction:

This is confirmed: The new law in April will soon be banned everywhere in France and Europe.

However, this content, which evokes alleged replacement of tickets with digital euros, lacks a foundation. There is no trace in the list of texts announced this month. In addition “Digital Euro allows you to pay all your purchases without using one ticket” It is based on voluntary confusion with existing tools such as bank cards.

Research on Tiktoku shows that this type of misinformation is part of a recurring trend that has been recycling alarming stories since 2023. This recent wave of deceptive content has several characteristics:

  • Doubtful origin: a mad chain that claims to be information, but are powered by the content generated by artificial intelligence;
  • Quick proliferation: Subject “Prohibition of Figure Silver” refers to dozens of viral videos in French;
  • Repetition of speech: alarmist reports have been repeated since last year, despite the absence of a legal basis;
  • Manipulation of real facts: The digital Euro project is used to the credibility of the story of deprivation of economic freedom.

Despite digital excitement, no official statement or Bill confirms this work in France. The use of cash remains legal and protected by the French authorities, as reminiscent of debates in the Senate. So it seems that the use of fear and confusion is more motivated by searching for clicks than spreading reliable information.

Digital euro, additional tool and not replacement

Unlike misleading confirmation of spread online, the digital euro is not intended to replace the species. The ECB project has been implementing a digital currency designed to coexist with the current means of payment.

According to official documents, the aim is to offer an additional form of payment for tickets and parts. ECB’s intention is clear:

To guarantee that citizens still have access to the currency of the central bank even at digital age to maintain the freedom of consumers’ choice.

From a technical point of view, digital euro should be free of charge for individuals, applicable online as offline and offer a high level of confidentiality, a potentially equivalent level of cash payments.

The species remain widely used today. According to the ECB report they are considered “Important” Or “Very important” by 60 % of the French. The fear of a forced transition to digital is not confirmed by facts. In the autumn of 2024, however “Limited freedom of payments (…) and weakening of unpacked people”.

In the medium term, the acceptance of the digital euro in France could transform certain aspects of banking procedures, in particular by reducing dependence on private intermediaries. However, the ECB ensures that it wishes to set warranties, especially against excessive supervision of transactions. If deployment is planned between 2026 and 2027, its success will depend on social acceptance, citizens’ trust and respect for individual freedoms. In this context, the alertness remains okay, but it would not be dictated by misinformation.
